Time to plant the Amaryllis Bulbs

There's a fun job on my "to do" list today.  It's time to plant the Amaryllis bulbs.  This year I'll be planting bulbs that I saved from last year along with a new one.  I'm hoping at least one of them will bloom again. (It will probably be the surprise red one - see the post HERE)  I'm going to plant for my neighbor and Mom-in-law too. I figure if I'll be digging in the dirt I might as well get them all done at once.

I've been buying the double blooming variety which gives me two sets of flowers and a longer time to enjoy the blooms.  They're more expensive than the common, pre-planted bulbs that come in a box (which are also pretty) but the big bulbs are totally worth it.  I really enjoy all the stages of growth (don't the leaves look interesting?) and the beauty of each flower never ceases to amaze me. I'm looking forward to the weeks ahead!

If you'd like to try growing one there's good information available HERE from White Flower Farm.

And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Matthew 6:29

  2. I plant mine for indoors too and then put the pots on the deck for the spring - fall. After they stay in the basement in a dark spot for a while then I bring them up and plant them in new soil. Love when I'm really ambitious I put them back in the dark and bring up one every two weeks. I did post some of the ones I had in my studio on earlier posts last year and look forward to photographing these. Thanks SO much for stopping by to read my blog!
