It's that time of year.  I start writing the dates of the Northern Illinois Area Spring Flower Shows into my datebook.  It's a time to escape the cold, enjoy the beauty, breath in the scent of flowers, marvel at the talent of the designers and to take about a million photographs. I get lost behind the lens of my camera and many times just stand quietly studying the colors, structure and stages of growth that make up the plant. I guess I feel a connection and momentarily communicate with them.

Lucky for me, it's a part of my business, to study and teach botanical art. I even enjoy reading about the events in the news and on the internet. The anticipation is part of the fun!

I thought you might want to check out a few of the shows as well this year so here's a list with links to the websites of each one.

The artist is the confidant of nature, flowers carry on dialogues with him through the graceful bending of their stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms.  Every flower has a cordial word which nature directs towards him.  Auguste Rodin
