Patience Rewarded with Beautiful Pink Cactus Flowers ©CindyRippe2013
Mom's collection of birds in the window are pretty happy today.  Flowers in the windowsill!  This plant is at least 12 years old and never blooms at the same time.  I figure that's why it's known by so many different names; Christmas Cactus, Thanksgiving Cactus, Crab Cactus, Holiday Cactus, Schlumbergera, and Zygocactus.  We really never know when to expect the flowers so I guess it could also be called a Surprise Cactus!

The advice for growing this plant is just a varied as the name (check it out - do a search on the internet).  The only really consistent advice is to leave it in a small pot.  Cool! We did that right at least, it's in the same small plastic pot we bought it in.  I put that small pot inside the terra cotta with rocks around it so it doesn't tip over.  Oh!  The other advice is to have patience.  That one got much easier over the years as I gave up expecting the flowers and chose surprise when it decided the plant it was time for the show.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  Galatians 5:22-23
